Steamship SS Tawera, Te Anau, Fiordland, New Zealand

Description: The SS Tawera was buit in Dunedin. The hull in sections was railed to Mossburn and carried by wagons towed by long suffering bullocks to be assembled at Bluegum Point Te Anau. She was launched on 22 February 1899. At decommisioning (1996) the Tawera was the longest serving vessel in New Zealand and it was a great pity it didn't see out 100 years of service. The Tawera is now stored in the yard of the Workshop Division of Real Journeys. Source and full history: www.steam.co.nz/tawera.htm
